New Delhi, Nov 26th : , After the Prime Minister attacked the Opposition parties for their boycott of the Constitution Day event, Congress retaliated by claiming that the government is “insulting the spirit” of the Constitution through disrespecting the Opposition. Anand Sharma, Congress Deputy Leader in Rajya Sabha, stated that the government should remind itself today that merely watching the government perform its functions and disregarding the spirit and essence of India’s Constitution is a poor reflection of the current state of affairs.
He stated that the Opposition had no role other than to be in the audience.Two years ago, Congress demanded that the Opposition be given a position on the day.However, the government didn’t heed the advice.The country is multi-party and all public representatives should have been given the proper importance in the function.
“We protested that the event was reduced to a government function and hoped the government would respect the Parliamentary democracy in the future.” Sharma stated.
“Our protest today is based upon fundamental principles to remind our nation that the Constitution is being compromised and not respected.He added that Parliamentary democracy is being threatened through the passing of laws without any Parliamentary scrutiny.
He stated that the Congress had strengthened democracy, which is why the Prime Minister was elected in 2014.Therefore Modi’s criticisms of the Opposition are “unwarranted”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi blasted the Opposition on Friday, saying that “How can parties who have lost their democratic character protect democracy.”
Modi spoke at the Constitution Day celebrations held in the Central Hall of Parliament.The event was boycotted and boycotted by 14 opposition parties including the Congress.
He pointed out that India is headed towards a crisis and said, “In the form family-based parties in India, India is heading towards some kind of crisis.This is a matter for concern for people devoted to Constitution, and a matter for concern for those who believe democracy is possible.”
