Google Again Sues Sonos For Copying Smart Speaker, Voice Control Tech

Google continues to sue Sonos to copy smart speakerand voice control technology.

San Francisco, Aug 8 : Google on Monday sued the high-tech speaker and sound technology firm Sonos again, claiming that Sonos infringed its patents related to smart speakers and voice control technology.
The tech giant has filed two lawsuits in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, and plans to bring similar suits with the US International Trade Commission soon according to The Verge.

The lawsuits are brought in an effort to “defend our technological innovation and to challenge Sonos’s obvious and ongoing violation of our patents” an Google spokesperson said in the article.

Sonos “started an aggressive and false campaign targeting our products at the cost of our customers who are part of our community,” Google alleged.

In a decision in January of this year the US International Trade Commission (ITC) found that Google violated five patents of high-tech audio and speaker technology company Sonos related to smart speakers.

A US judge had decided in August of last year that Google violated Sonos patents.Sonos patents.

In the month of January, Sonos first sued tech giant Google for the alleged copying of the design of its wireless speakers insisting on the ITC to stop Google products such as phones, laptops and speakers.

Sonos CEO Patrick Spence testified before the US House antitrust committee that Google “blocked the company from allowing the Amazon Alexa assistant as well as Google Assistant Google Assistant from working simultaneously”.

Google has stated that “we do not anticipate any impact on our ability to sell or import the products we offer”.

According to Sonos the company, beginning in 2016, just a few months following the time that the initial Google Home was launched, it began to warn Google about patent infringements, but to no result.

Sonos has said it is accusing Google of infringing upon the totality of 100 patents.

Google countersued the audio company Sonos for patent infringement, claiming the tech giant had contributed “substantial Google engineering resources” to aid Sonos in the past.

Google has maintained for years that its technology was created independently and not copied by Sonos.
