Hyderabad, Nov 30, : Customs officials from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here confiscated 472.8 grams of gold in paste form from the seat pockets of a flight from Guwahati.
On Tuesday, an official stated that efforts were being made to locate the passenger.This is just a day after Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), arrested a man and seize gold worth more than Rs.1 crore.The accused was employed in a private company that provided catering services to an airline.
DRI claims that the accused had taken the gold hidden in an airplane to hand it over to the receivers on November 27, according to DRI.DRI sleuths intercepted him near the airport while he was carrying smuggled gold of foreign origin.Two gold bars weighing 1 kg each were seized, each bearing foreign markings, and two thin gold sheets each weighing 100g.The total value of the yellow metal seized was Rs.1.09 crore.According to the DRI, the accused was stealing gold from the aircraft during loading and unloading of food trays.
