Chennai, November 21st : , Officials have confirmed that a group of goat thieves killed an inspector in a village in Tamil Nadu’s Pudukottai on Sunday.S.
Bhoominathan, 55, was performing night patrol duties at Navalpattu in Trichy when he saw people riding goats on bicycles.
Bhoominathan waved at the bikers for them to stop after several instances of goat thefts were reported in the vicinity.
Police sources say that the bike-borne thieves arrived at Keeranur before the victim was able to get one bike and two goats.The rest fled the scene.
Bhoominathan was just about to arrest them when one of the thieves pulled out a knife that he had concealed in his clothing, and attacked the victim before fleeing.According to police, the sub-inspector was killed instantly because of the severe injury.
The body was taken by Keeranur police to Trichy General Hospital for an autopsy.
The Tiruchy Police Commissioner and Pudukottai Chief of Police rushed to the scene as soon as they got the information.
They are now trying to capture the criminals.
According to police, after an inquest and post mortem the victim’s body would be given over to his loved ones.
