Panaji, Nov 29, : .Days after a walkout by members of the Goa Private Dental Practitioners Association from an interaction between medical practitioners and J.
P.Nadda, BJP’s national president, the association has accused Dr.Shekhar Salkar of calling the protest ‘politically motivated. The association members stated in a Monday statement that they were called to Nadda’s interaction here on Nov 25, to discuss specific issues related to their profession including the recent increase in bio-medical waste disposal fees.They claimed it was “unreasonable.”
“But the truth is that we were there on a particular invitation having told Convenor, BJP Medical Cell that the purpose of attending was to submit the memorandum and have a healthy interaction avec him so that our problems are resolved at the earliest.We were not seeking any favors and certainly not taking any risks,” the statement said.
“The meeting was supposed to be interactive, but it was delayed to almost 10 p.m., and even though we patiently waited to see Naddaji and other dental professionals, the dental fraternity felt that their representatives weren’t allowed to speak and were not allowed to finish their thoughts.We were told it would be an interactive session, but in reality it was an interruption session.Therefore, we organized a spontaneous walk-out,” the association with around 350 members in Goa said.
Dr Shekhar Salkar is a renowned oncologist and convenor of the state BJP’s media cell.He had criticised the association members for protesting and wearing black arm-bands to the meeting with Nadda.
This suggests that the protest was politically motivated in order to win the 2022 state Assembly elections.
“He (Dr.Salkar), told us that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to present our problems before the BJP National President in the presence of Chief Minister.He said that if we came with large numbers, it would put enormous pressure on the Chief Minster and he being a politician would understand how important it is and resolve our issues as soon as possible.” The statement stated.
