New Delhi, Dec 3 : Microsoft-owned GitHub saw a 46.3 per cent growth in developer productivity in India, along with a massive 103.1 per cent growth in total active students in the country, the open source code repository platform said on Thursday.
More than 56 million developers are now building on GitHub globally.This includes more than 1.9 billion contributions added and more than 60 million new repositories created, according to GitHub’s annual State of the Octoverse Report. “While 2020 has been a year of challenges, we saw developers come together from all corners of the world to innovate, find connection, and solve problems,” the company said in a statement. Nearly 35 per cent more repositories were created in 2020 than last year.
“We saw 25 per cent more contributions to open source projects. Developer work dropped on the weekends, while open source activity jumped,” said GitHub.
Python and Typescript continue to grow in popularity and top languages for 2020 include Javascript, Python, Java, Typescript, C#, PHP, C++, C, Shell, Ruby and Objective-C.
“We see the most frequent use of open source dependencies in JavaScript (94 per cent), Ruby (90 per cent), and .NET (90 per cent).
When it comes to security, most vulnerabilities in open source were from mistakes, not malicious attacks.
“Nearly 83 per cent of the CVEs (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures) that GitHub sends alerts for are due to mistakes rather than malicious intent,” it informed
