Ganesh Venkatram talks about his role as courageous Velu Thambi in the freedom series

Chennai 22nd August : In the DD National series titled Swaraj", Ganesh Venkatram plays Velu Thambi who was the Dewan of Travancore between 1802 and 1809 when he battled in the East India Company in the Battle of Quilon and was subsequently betrayed by his MaharajaThe series, the first episode of which will be aired every Sunday at 9 p.

m.it will commemorate the 75th anniversary of Indias Independence and tells the amazing stories of the freedom struggles untold heroes.

The show will air in several languages including Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi and English and streamed on a renowned OTT platform too.Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his cabinet ministers recently attended an exclusive screening of the show.Speaking to IANS, Ganesh said: "Swaraj is a celebration of 75 years of Indias Independence.It will air over 75 episodes.

I had the opportunity to portray Velu Thambi, and it was an amazing experience to discover his life and adventures.Being an actor Ive always wanted to portray an impressive character from the pages of Indian historical records -the brave warrior, fighter and the experience was very satisfying "Our past is filled with numerous untold tales of bravery that young people need to be told about.

Velu Thambi is one person Ive only read about, and watching his tales unfold on screen is sure to be an enjoyable experience for viewers." In terms of work the actor has completed filming for a multilingual project called Sabari in which he is paired with Varalakshmi Sarathkumar.
