Paris, Nov 29, : , The French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin has asked Britain to “take its responsibility” regarding migrants.He stated that France will not be “hostage” to the UK’s domestic policies. “We must work with our British friends.They must work together to fight smugglers,” Darmanin stated, according to Le Figaro, a French newspaper.
The French Minister accused Britain of closing legal avenues for asylum applications.”There have been 150,000 asylum applications in France since January 1.It’s 30,000 in Britain.
He called for a more vigorous fight against smugglers after Wednesday’s death of at least 27 migrants crossing the Channel to reach Britain.
He said, “Migrants shouldn’t be criminalized, but those who organize these transfers should,”
Recent Channel crossings to Britain by illegal immigrants have been increasing in number.According to Xinhua news agency, more than 1,000 people arrived in November alone.
