Paris, Nov 26th : .France will offer Covid-19 booster shots to all adults over 18 years old starting Saturday, announced Olivier Veran, Health Minister. Veran stated to the media that the health authorities now recommend a booster shot every five months after completing primary vaccination.
According to the Minister, 19 millions French citizens are now eligible for booster shots.
More than 51.8 million French citizens, or 76.7 percent of the population, have received at minimum one vaccine dose.Some 6 million have received booster shots.
He also announced that a health card will no longer be valid if it is not accompanied by a booster shot starting January 15, 2022.
Veran stated that France will tighten its rules regarding barrier gestures.
Masks must be worn in enclosed spaces from Friday to Sunday, even if a health pass is required such as theatres, museums, and cinemas.
He said that local authorities could decide whether a mask should be worn in crowded open air areas.
Also, a health pass will be required to enter Christmas markets.
The Minister stated that PCR and antigen testing will have a 24-hour validity starting November 29 for those who have not been vaccinated.
This is in addition to the current 72-hour validity.
Veran stressed that France could pass the fifth wave without any further restrictive measures.
He also dismissed the possibility of a lockdown or curfew.
France had registered 7,619,656 confirmed Covid-19 deaths as of Friday morning.
