Paris, Nov 29, : , Eight Omicron Covid-19 cases have been reported by the French Health Ministry to eight passengers who were positive for Omicron Covid-19 after their African travels in the past 14 days. Eight positive Covid-19 cases with a negative screening for mutations (Alpha Beta, Gamma and Delta)” need further confirmation by sequencing, the French Health Ministry stated on Sunday in a press release.It could take “several more days”.
France’s neighboring countries have already reported confirmed Omicron Covid-19 case reports, Xinhua news agency reported.
Olivier Veran, French Health Minister, stated that “from the time it (Omicron), circulated at our neighbors, it is possible it’s circulating here.”
France, along with other European Union members, has decided to suspend flights from seven countries in southern Africa as a preventive measure.
The World Health Organization stated on Sunday that it is not clear if the Omicron variant causes more severe disease or is more transmissible than other variants including Delta.
