Sydney, Nov 26 : , Flood warnings were issued for parts of New South Wales (NSW), Queensland (Victoria) on Friday as emergency workers prepared for another busy weekend after continued torrential rains and thunderstorms along Australia’s east coast.
As storms swept through Sydney, almost 30 mm of rain fell in just one hour on Thursday night.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM), which is responsible for forecasting the weather, expects further rain to drench the region over the weekend, reports Xinhua news agency.

One of the most affected areas in NSW is the Upper Hunter, located about 300km north of Sydney.

Floodwaters have inundated homes and businesses in Cassilis.

Since Thursday evening, the Namoi River rose to a height of 7 meters above the township of Wee Waa, in the state’s northern part, the township has been completely isolated.

Volunteer workers from the NSW State Emergency Service (SES), have expanded their operations to reduce flash flood risks.They have already saved people from their cars roofs after they attempted to cross floodwaters.

These deluges come on top of record-breaking rainfalls that have more than tripled the average monthly rainfall in parts NSW.They have also destroyed crops and flooded pastures as rivers break their banks.

Brisbane, Queensland’s capital, was flooded on Thursday by up to 140mm of rain.

Helen Reid, BoM meteorologist, stated that rainfall across Queensland will increase river conditions and river heights and cause flooding conditions to be exacerbated.She spoke to ABC.

The BoM expects that heavy rains and storms will continue in eastern Victoria throughout the weekend.

It has been one the wettest Novembers on record.The wild conditions are expected continue for months, with the BoM announcing a La Nina event in the tropical Pacific.

The last major La Nina events in Australia were between the summers of 2010 and 2012.They resulted from some of the wettest days ever.
