Thiruvananthapuram 26 November : .The second largest ally of the Vijayan-led Left government, Kerala, has criticised it.
The CPI raised concerns about the functioning and operation of the Kerala Police in Friday’s Janayugam party organ. Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister, also manages the Home Portfolio.
In its editorial, the CPI stated, “it was most unfortunate” that those who are supposed to care for the society are not doing so.This has seriously affected the image and credibility of the Left government in a very negative way.”
It cites recent instances in which police officers were wrongly accused in cases such as the fake antique dealer case.This was where even top police officers were unaware.
The editorial criticizes the way that a police officer handled a complaint from a young student in law.This led to the suicide attempt of the student who was forced to leave her husband’s home.
The editorial discusses the conduct of the same police officer in another case.He messed with the investigation into the suicide of another young woman and gave a bizarre order asking for the dead body to come to his house to help him prepare the inquest report.
CPI expressed concern that despite a thorough investigation by a superior officer into the actions of this police officer, which recommended suspension, nothing had happened.Many are left wondering what happened as it has sullied the image of the police and also shamed the democratic society.
It also states that it is the responsibility of the ruling party to deal with these issues in a fitting manner.
Interestingly, the party’s ire was directed at Vijayan, who in the second term of his CM has completely avoided the media and the Assembly floor.
Despite the Congress-led Opposition’s snide remarks, he has not spoken on a few issues and left it to the ministers to address them.
