Farmers protest for MSP and other issues: Tikait

Hyderabad, Nov 25, : .Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait made it clear that farmers will continue to protest the Minimum Support Price (MSP), and other legislations that are in the pipeline that are detrimental to their interests.
He stated that even though the Central government had announced the repeal of three farm laws it is not going to solve the problems of farmers.The government is trying to introduce anti-farmer laws.

Tikait addressed the ‘Maha Dharna’ event organized by All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee, (AIKSCC-Telangana) in Hyderabad to mark one years of the countrywide agitation against the three agri law.

He stated that the farmers’ protest at Delhi’s Ghazipur border would continue.He claimed that their protest was not just for the repeal of three agri laws, but also to demand MSP guarantee and other issues faced farmers.

He claimed that the Narendra Modi government was run and controlled by companies, and that several legislations were being considered to further their interests.

He cited the proposed amendments of laws relating to electricity, seeds.

“They want to eliminate weekly agriculture markets in the nation.

There will be a police station for seeds, where farmers can be questioned about the seeds they have sown in their fields.He said that several laws were in the works because no one in Parliament has spoken on these issues.

According to the farmers’ leader, Samyukt Kisan Morcha, the union of nearly 40 farmers, which is leading the agitation, will write all political parties to raise real issues such as repeal of three agri law, passage of MSP guarantee Bill, and price rise in the ensuing Parliament session.Parties will be urged not to discuss non-issues, as they distract from the real problems facing people.

Tikait also demanded the creation of a committee consisting of representatives from SKM and government officials as well as agricultural scientists, to discuss all issues relating farmers.Tikait blasted the Central government for not allowing talks to take place with farmers.

Later, the farmer leader revealed to reporters that SKM’s strategy was to defeat the BJP from Uttar Pradesh.He stated that they would work to make sure that the BJP faces a boycott in villages, and claimed that this had already begun in western Uttar Pradesh.

He stated that SKM would decide its future course of action at its meeting held on November 27.He said, “We will organize a tractor march through Delhi on November 29th and another at the borders of the national capital the following day.”

Tikait reacted to K.Chandrasekhar Rao, Telangana Chief Minister,’s announcement of ex gratia of Rs 3.lakh each to the kin to approximately 750 farmers who died during the year-long protests.

He stated that the fight was for the farmers of the whole country and suggested that Telangana and other states declare aid to the families of the farmers who have been killed.

Tikait advised the Telangana Chief minister to assist the farmers of the state.He expressed concern about the paddy farmers of the state and hoped that the MSP guarantee Act would help them.

He stated that SKM was created for the country and that the agitation has given the country new hope.”This is more than just a movement of farmers.This is the movement of 14 million unemployed people who felt let down by the government for not creating 2 crore jobs each year.He said that this is a movement of all the oppressed citizens of this country, including tribals and landless farmers.
