Chandigarh, Dec 8 : Punjab PWD Minister Vijay Inder Singla on Wednesday inaugurated the farmers’ memorial ‘Yadgar-e-Shaheedaan’ in the state’s Sangrur town. This memorial includes the names of all farmers and farm labourers who “sacrificed their lives during year-long demonstration in national capital against three black agricultural laws”.These names are engraved on stone.
Minister Teg Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, has died for humanity.Farmers have also renounced the “anti-farmer” policies, according to the minister.
“All sections of Punjab have contributed to this farmers’ protest, regardless of their caste or religion.We have a long history of celebrating martyrdom in Punjab.”This memorial is our tribute for those brave souls that sacrificed their lives in the noble cause,” Singla stated, as he inaugurated the memorial.
He stated that he was proud to be a Punjabi, a group that played a leading role in mobilizing farmers and farm labourers and forcing Union government to repeal three “black” farm laws that would have ruined the agriculture sector if they were implemented.
Singla said that more than 700 people died in this historic protest that lasted for one year, despite all efforts by the Union government discrediting the noble cause of farm unions.
