Haveri (Karnataka) September 9 : A controversial statement made by K.B.Koliwad the Former Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly, in connection with the suicide of a farmer suicide has been widely shared, causing outrage.Koliwad, an incumbent five-term Congress MLA made the remarks while talking to a party employee on the phone who invited him to visit the residence of the victim Ranibennur and place a garland around the body.
Ranibennur was Koliwad’s old district.
“What could we do If he (farmer) is hanging himself? He is committing suicide and died.Why would you bring these cases up? Why should I scold him? If I do and people claim that neta was gone without paying a dime and you’ve created a habit of it,” says the former Speaker.
He also asks the worker if he had contacted the farmer to commit suicide.
“You workers shouldn’t discuss such instances.He took his own life and then committed suicide.his life.The story ends there.
Have I asked him to do so? Why do he (dead farmer) require a garland? This isn’t the way to go,” he added.
After a brief conversation with the worker from the party, Koliwad continued to rage by saying: “I don’t know when will people be able to learn? He says that the farmer is dead and I need to go to his grave and crown him.I’m not sure the reason he was hanging himself, and what wrong he did.”
The video and audio footage of the incident went to the top of social media, causing huge embarrassment to the Congress party in Karnataka which had launched a full-on assault against the ruling BJP over the demise of infrastructure in Bengaluru due to the rain.
