New Delhi, December 29, : , After Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi joined Bharatiya Janata Party, the Centre granted him security coverage in the ‘Z’ Category.Sources in security said that Sodhi (who joined the BJP in December 21) will receive security coverage in Delhi as well as Punjab from the Central Reserve Police Force, (CRPF), on Wednesday.
Four-time MLA, Sodhi was elected from Guruhar Sarai.He also won the Assembly election.
Sodhi is close to Amarinder Singh, former Chief Minister of Punjab.On social media, he has posted his resignation to Sonia Gandhi (interim Congress President) and announced that he was resigning from Congress.
The Union government provided security coverage to 79 BJP leaders from West Bengal, including Trinamool turncoats.Many of their VIP security was removed immediately upon returning to the TMC.
After Rajib Banerjee, a former West Bengal minister, returned to TMC after a short stay with the BJP on December 22, the Central government withdrew his ‘Z’ security.Banerjee, who had contested West Bengal’s last assembly election on a BJP ticket representing Domjur district in Howrah, lost to Kalyan Ghosh of Trinamool Congress.
Banerjee was granted security of ‘Z’ in West Bengal, and coverage for ‘Y’ across India.
