State media quoted Kebede Desisa, Minister of Communication Service, as saying.

This was a day after the US Embassy in Ethiopia issued a warning to Ethiopian citizens residing there about possible terrorist attacks in Addis Ababa, Xinhua news agency reported.

The US government had warned its citizens earlier to leave the country in east Africa because of the growing conflict.

Conflict erupted in November 2020 in Ethiopia’s northernmost Tigray between the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF), and the Ethiopian National Defense Forces.

It has since spread to neighbouring Amhara, Afar, and other regions as loyal forces to the TPLF have moved southward.

This prompted massive popular mobilization in the areas and other states of the country to stop the TPLF from expanding.

The Ethiopian House of People’s Representatives ratified a six month emergency rule earlier in December to stop the TPLF’s advance and ensure security and peace in the country.
