Cairo 12 Sep : Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Suweilam stated on Sunday Egypt is among of the most affected nations by climate change, according to a news site.
Egypt is suffering from water shortages in the country, as well as high temperatures, erosion, and saltwater intrusion into fresh water the minister was quoted as saying.The rise in the population and water shares that are unstable (from rivers like the Nile) and the effects of climate change have caused the shortage of water for drinking, agriculture and industrial uses in many nations, he added.
The minister also called on all countries to improve cooperation in dealing with extreme climate change, highlighting the importance of placing the food sector, water as well as agriculture on the agenda of global climate change.Egypt is making huge efforts in improving the management of water including rehabilitation of canals to better supply the necessary water to farmers Suweilam added, adding that water is a crucial component in the food and agriculture sectors as well as in food security.
Ministers stressed the importance of expanding projects to desalinate water, as well as investigating less expensive and more efficient methods of recycling wastewater.int/sh.
