Bhubaneswar : , Wednesday, November 24, 2009: BJP youth wing activists hurled eggs in the direction of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s convoy from Puri on Wednesday in protest against the murder case of Mamita Meher, school teacher.The BJP demanded the removal of Dibya Shankar, Minister of State for Interior, from the Cabinet due to his alleged connections with Gobind Sahu, the prime accused in the case.
The egg attack occurred in Puri town’s government hospital square.This was just after the Chief Minister had returned to Bhubaneswar from attending the foundation stone laying ceremony of Jagannath Temple Heritage Corridor Project.
Sources said that despite tight security, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha supporters (BJYM), suddenly rose up and hurled eggs at CM’s convoy from outside the barricade.This was for security reasons.
Irasish Acharya, the state president of BJYM, has admitted that his supporters did it.”Our Puri district members pelted eggs and waved black flags.We will protest wherever the chief minister goes.”This protest will continue until Patnaik takes appropriate action against some of his corrupt ministers,” stated Acharya.
This morning eggs were also hurled at Minister Bikram Keshari Aukha’s vehicle near Malatipatpur as he was heading to Puri to attend the same event.Later, youth BJP activists ‘purified the Badadanda’ by adding cow dung water.
The youth Congress workers protested the visit by the CM to Puri.
