Sivankutty, the State Education Minister, and five other leading figures filed a petition at the Kerala High Court to request a stay of the trial on charges related to vandalism committed in 2015 in Kerala Assembly’s floor.
The petitioners wanted to stop the discharge process, which was denied by the court of the capital.

In fact, in July, Kerala’s government approached the Supreme Court to withdraw the criminal case against the six leaders. However, the Supreme Court ruled that legislators who engage in vandalism in a House session do not have immunity.

All of them were asked by the apex court to stand trial.

The Congress and BJP demanded Sivankutty’s resignation. This was outright rejected by CPI-M.

The trial is about to begin, so the leaders approached the High Court again with a new petition.

However, the court did not stop the petition but instead accepted the petition.
