Chennai, Nov 29, : On Monday, the Enforcement Directorate questioned C.Vijayabhaskar, former Tamil Nadu Health Minister, and leader of AIADMK in a case under Prevention of Money Laundering Act.The ED’s Kochi unit questioned him about the alleged purchase by him of gold from a prominent Kerala jeweller.
After the jeweller filed a complaint against Sharmila, Alappuzha-based Sharmila, stating that she hadn’t remitted Rs 2.5 crore due to him, the issue was brought up.
Sources claim Sharmila deposed that she received a commission equal to 1% of the business she gave to the jeweller. After linking Vijayabhaskar to the jeweller, she told the ED she received a commission of Rs 2.5 crore.
This means that Vijayabhaskar would’ve bought gold worth Rs 250 crore. The ED believes that the former minister would have used black cash to buy gold.
On October 18, 2021, the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption conducted raids at the Pudukottai premises of Vijayabhaskar and other family members.
