Dinesh Karthik A Fine Finisher, But Actual Finishers Are Guys Like Suryakumar Yadav: Srikkanth

Dinesh Karthik is a great finalist, but real winners include guys like Suryakumar Yodav Srikkanth

New Delhi, Aug 10 : Krishnamachari Srikkanth, the former India captain and former chairman of the selection committee believes that, even though Dinesh Karthik is a fine finisher, he believes middle order batter Suryakumar Yadav as an actual finisher in the Indian team.
Since his return to the Indian team for the series against South Africa in June, Karthik has been promoted to play the specialist finisher which is a high-risk job in which consistency is difficult to keep.

A 27-ball 55 on a difficult surface against South Africa at Rajkot and an unbeaten 19-ball 41 on a difficult surface against West Indies at Trinidad have been a few instances of Karthik’s final role that has benefited India in recent years.

Suryakumar, on the other hand, Suryakumar has been batting in middle-order, scoring a superb 117 against England at Nottingham and, more recently opening the bat in West Indies, with an 86-ball 44 on a shaky surface at St Kitts being the standout.

“What does it mean to be”finisher? In my book, a finisher is the player who is able to take the batting starting from the 12th or 8th over and continue to the 20th turn, and ultimately win the game for India. He starts at the 8th or sixth over.

However, which is the best finisher? KL Rahul is a great finisher.Rohit Sharma is also a great finisher. They start opening in the same way.I’m not able to say you bat the final 5 overs and then say”he’s an end-of-the-line player.”

“I want to call Dinesh Karthik as a finisher, he certainly finds a spot in my squad too.I would consider Dinesh Karthik a great finisher, but real finishers are men who look like Suryakumar Yadav. He is a fantastic finisher. The team includes Rishabh Pant who is a fantastic finisher. You also have Hardik Pandya who is a fantastic finisher too.I’d be able to clarify what a”finisher” is a person who takes the team starting at the 8th over and continues up to the 20th,” said Follow the Blues show on Star Sports.

When discussing India’s squad for the 2022 Asia Cup, Kiran More Former India wicketkeeper and chairman of the selection committee is still of the opinion that the team chosen to play in the competition in the UAE beginning from August 27, won’t be the same team that will be playing for the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia in October and November.

“Yes, definitely.

This is how Hardik Pandya has returned in form, he has been able to bowl at 140-147 km.When the captain is able to get an athlete in the team, who is able to bowl four overs and take wickets and also gain more runs for the team, and an efficient finisher they are needed in the squad. But I’d like to mention that the team that was made public (for the Asia Cup) will not be the same squad for the T20 World Cup.”

When asked about the same, More opined that pacer Mohammed Shami will be picked for the prestigious event.Shami hasn’t played in a T20I since he was a player for India since they were knocked out of Super 10 stage of the Men’s T20 World Cup in the UAE last year.”Mohammed Shami will be included in the Indian team. The backup team they’re taking as a backup team isn’t necessarily the ultimate team. This is merely a pre-game for the World Cup.I would declare that Mohammed Shami must definitely go to the World Cup.”

“The method by which Rahul Dravid follows is the method he manages the team.In the event of backup in case any good bowler is suffering with injury and is not able to return, then Avesh Khan could be able to fill in his position in Australia because there is no way to know when you might be injured, especially fast bowlers.Bumrah is injured right moment, so I believe Mohammed Shami or Bumrah will certainly be heading to Australia for the World Cup.”
