Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu commends Indo-Americans for playing an important role in strengthening Indo-US relations.He welcomed the announcement by the Government of India to award the Padma Bhushan to three Indo-Americans on the occasion of Republic Day.

Sandhu lauded the expatriates for being a pillar of bilateral ties through their achievements in various fields.He made the remarks at a virtual event to mark the 73rd Republic Day celebrations.

The event was attended by thousands of Indian Americans through social media.In this context, Madhu Jaffrey, Microsoft CEO Satyanadella and Google CEO Sundar Pichai congratulated them on being nominated for the Padma Bhushan Award.

Taranjit said the US was a key partner for India on this occasion.During a bilateral summit with US President Joe Biden last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Indo-US strategic partnership in the areas of tradition, talent, technology and trade was growing.

He said this year was special as it was celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of India's independence.Taranjit commented that India is in a better position despite the many challenges facing the world right now.Leading US lawmakers on Wednesday congratulated Indians on the occasion of the 73rd Republic Day of India.Senator Bob Menendez, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, tweeted to this effect.
