New Delhi, Nov 26 : Under the Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojna, the first batch of pilgrims to Kartarpur Sahib would depart on January 5 and the first train for Delhi-Velankanni-Delhi would depart on January 7 next year, the Delhi government said in a statement on Friday.
“The Delhi Government has decided to add two more routes in addition to the existing 13 yatra routes namely Delhi-Velankanni-Delhi and Delhi-Kartarpur Sahib-Delhi under its Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra scheme.

The devotees would be provided berths in AC-III tier trains on Delhi-Velankanni-Delhi route whereas for Kartarpur Sahib, the devotees would be given seats in Deluxe 2×2 AC buses.The first batch of Yatris to Kartarpur Sahib would depart on January 5, 2022, and the first train for Delhi-Velankanni-Delhi would depart on January 7, 2022,” the statement read.

Kailash Gahlot, Revenue Minister, reviewed the preparedness for the Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojna at a high-level meeting on Friday.

15,000 applicants who applied for the yatra in 2019 but were unable to avail the facility because of the Covid pandemic will receive SMSs informing them about the possibility of amending their applications and uploading full vaccinated certificates to the e-district portal.The scheme will also allow doctors and paramedical personnel to accompany the Yatris on all trains and buses.

Due to the Covid pandemic, the Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojana under which senior citizens of Delhi can travel on pilgrimages at their own expense was canceled for 2020 and 2021.

On September 30, Revenue Minister Gahlot presided over a meeting to review the readiness to resume the Yatra.IRCTC informed that trains can only be made available for the Yatra after October 15.

A new route, New Delhi-Ayodhya – New Delhi, was added to the scheme’s list of routes after approval by the Delhi Government cabinet.With the addition of two additional routes, the scheme now has 15.

The scheme provides free travel packages for pilgrimage by the Delhi Government to senior citizens living in the capital.This facility is available to a maximum of 1,100 residents in each assembly constituency.

However, the annual limit of 77,000 Yatris is applied.

According to the Delhi government, 35,080 beneficiaries have traveled under the scheme since its formal launch.
