These effects lasted at most for a week.

However, the afternoon test showed no improvement.

Glen Jeffery, University College London’s lead author, said that one exposure to long-wave deep red light in the morning can dramatically improve declining vision. This is a major issue for health and well-being, and affects millions of people worldwide.

The study involved a small but significant group of participants between 34 and 70 years old. They had no ocular diseases, completed a questionnaire about eye health before testing and had normal color vision (cone function).

This was done using a chroma test, which identifies coloured letters with low contrast and appear increasingly blurred. This is called colour contrast.

All participants were exposed to a 3 minute exposure of 670nm red light using an LED device provided. The participants were then tested for colour vision three hours later.

Ten participants were also tested one week after exposure.

On average, there was an improvement of colour vision of 17 percent, which lasted for a week in participants who were tested.

However, in older participants, the improvement was 20 percent, which also lasted for a week.

A few months after the first test, to ensure that any positive effects of the red light were ‘washed away’, few participants did the same test again in the afternoon between 12 p.m.and 1 p.m.It showed no improvement when participants were tested again for their colour vision.
