Chengdu 6 Sep : 46 victims are killed in the 6.8-magnitude earthquake that rattled Luding County in southwest China’s Sichuan Province on Monday, local officials announced at a press conference.As of 8:30 p.m.Monday 16 people were still missing and over 50 were injured according to Wang Feng, deputy director of the Sichuan provincial emergency management department, Xinhua news agency reported.
The dead, including 29 of them were from the Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture which manages Luding County, and the 17 others were all from Ya’an City.
The relief center for the earthquake of Ganzi is now in the process of activating the highest level of emergency response to the earthquake.
The 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck Luding County at 12:52 p.m.Monday (Beijing Time) According to China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).
The epicenter was located by the CENC at 29.59 degrees north latitude, and 102.08 degrees east longitude at an altitude of 16 kilometers the CENC reported.
The epicenter is located 39 km away from Luding, the county seat of Luding and there are several villages within the 5 km area around the epicenter.
