Peshawar/Quetta, August 27 : The torrential downpour continued to batter parts of Pakistan already ravaged by catastrophic flooding of immense proportions triggering another flood of destruction and death in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Balochistan and Sindh provinces.
The KP government declared a rain emergency in certain districts after flash floods caused by torrential rains caused havoc in the majority of the province, bringing the death toll across the province up to 238 people according to officials.They also said that the rain emergency that was put into effect immediately, will remain in place until August 30, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast another period of rain that could continue in the coming weeks, The Express Tribune reported.
Fresh rainstorms that poured down on different areas of the province for the second time in a row on the same day.A torrential downpours in Kaghan Valley triggered flash floods in the Munnawar Nullah that swept away 10 people, as per official figures.Over 10 stores two hotels, as well as eight vehicles were washed away in Mahandri because of severe floods in the river.
A mosque two schools, and a police station were also damaged.The Kaghan highway was shut to traffic in a number of places and people living along the Kunhar river banks had shifted away to safer locations.san/ .
