Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, Nov 29, : .A joint team consisting of Prayagraj police officers and the special operation group (SOG), has cracked the case of the brutal killing of four members from a Dalit family in Phaphamau, Uttar Pradesh.
The arrest of an alleged suspect also belonging to the same community was made. A Dalit couple and their minor daughter, along with their son, were murdered in their home on November 25, at Gorhi Mohanganj under the Phaphamau Police circle.
Police said that Pawan Kumar Saroj, the accused, committed the crime after being spurned from the victim’s child.He allegedly raped her, before she was killed.
Senior police officers claimed that the joint team investigating the case had scanned a mobile phone belonging to the victim and discovered WhatsApp chats between the accused and the victim.
Prem Prakash (Additional Director General) in the Prayagraj zone told media that after scanning the WhatsApp chat of the victim and conducting detailed investigations, police discovered that Pawan, a Tharwai resident, was sending her messages.”
Pawan claimed that he had been following this girl for a while but she ignored him when he was detained by police.
He was irritated by her behavior and claimed he had committed the crime.
Police claimed that the investigation teams were gathering more information about the incident.They claimed that the alleged suspect was not cooperating with them and tried to misdirect them.
Police say Pawan admitted to forcing the girl to accept his offer of friendship, but she declined his proposal.
Police sent a bloody shirt from the alleged suspect to be analyzed by forensic experts.
The police reported that a case was being filed under Section 147 and 148, 149.302,376 (D), 3/4 of the POCSO Act, and SC/ST Act.
The immediate family of the victims claimed that the murders were the result of a property dispute between some village upper caste members.
The incident became a major political issue as leaders from various parties, including Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party and Aam Aadmi Party, attacked the Uttar Pradesh government for “deteriorating law and order” in the state.
