Dalai Lama prays to Andhra Pradesh for victims of the calamity

Dharamsala : , Nov 21, 2001 – Concerned by the severe rains that have swept through Andhra Pradesh, causing property damage and loss of lives, the Dalai Lama, a Tibetan spiritual leader, has written to Chief Minister Y.S.Jagan Mohanreddy has sent his condolences and thoughts to Jagan Mohan, as well as to all the families that have lost their loved ones.
He wrote, “I pray to them.”

“I appreciate the fact that both the state government as well as other agencies, such the national disaster relief team are involved in relief and rescue work.They are trying their best to help those affected by the calamity.

The Dalai Lama Trust has made a donation to aid and rescue efforts in Andhra Pradesh as a gesture of solidarity.

His Holiness stated that he was able to travel to Andhra Pradesh many times throughout the years.

This included an opportunity to give a major Buddhist teaching in Amaravati in 2006.

The state government offered generous assistance to allow thousands of pilgrims to participate in that event, as well as to visit holy places such Nagarjunakonda, Guntur, which was a blessing to him.

He concluded by offering prayers and best wishes.
