K’taka medical school raises covid tally to 281

Dharawad (Karnataka), Nov 27, : A higher number of students have tested positive for Covid-19 at the SDM Medical College here, bringing the total to 281 on Saturday, according to K.Sudhakar, state Health Minister.
As some test results are still awaited, the number of cases will likely increase.

“All samples have been sent to genomic sequencing to determine if there are any new variants.” The minister stated that the reports will be available by December 1.

Sudhakar stated that students don’t have any serious symptoms.

On Friday, 182 medical students were found to have tested positive for Coronavirus.The college had tested 2,500 students and staff.

Sixty-six students had tested positive for infection by Thursday morning.The second phase of tests confirmed the infection of 116 more students.

District Commissioner Nitesh Patel said that on November 17, there was an auditorium function where a marriage ceremony was also performed two days later.On November 25, another function was held at the auditorium.

All attendees were asked to take Covid-19 tests.

The infection started in a medical student, but other students have also been infected.

He explained that parents of 182 medical students should be tested if they have seen their wards within the past week.

“We will have a clear picture of the Covid situation by Saturday.

He said that the samples are being tested at DIMHANS and KIMS labs as well as SDM labs.

Patil appealed to people to get checked at the nearest Primary Health Centre immediately if they have any symptoms.He said, “Everyone should take precautions to follow the Covid guidelines.”
