Covid: Govt revises Guidelines for Int’l Arrivals (Lead).

New Delhi, Nov 28, : Sunday’s revision of the guidelines for international arrivals was made by the Union Health Ministry in response to Omicron, a new Covid variant — which has been designated as a Variant Of Concern (VOC), by the World Health Organization (WHO).The updated guidelines will take effect December 1.
In a statement, the Health Ministry stated that “The existing guidelines were revised in view reporting of a new SARS-CoV-2 variant (B.1.1.529; renamed Omicron), which has now been classified as VOC in the WHO.”

The government stated that international arrivals will need to upload their 14-day travel records and valid negative RTPCR test reports to Air Suvidha portal before they can embark on their journey to India.

The statement states that the RT-PCR test report should not have been more than 72 hours old.

The new guidelines state that passengers arriving from countries considered ‘at-risk’ must be tested upon arrival.

If passengers are positive for any of the above, their samples will go through genomic sequencing and will be sent to institution quarantine.

If they test negative, they’ll be asked to remain in quarantine for seven more days.After that, they’ll take another test and continue monitoring their health for 7 days.

The government has included South Africa, China and the United Kingdom as well as European countries in its ‘At Risk” segment.

The Civil Aviation Ministry will pay for the random tests and the tests for passengers from ‘at risk’ countries.

The statement stated that travelers from countries other than those considered ‘at-risk’ countries will be allowed into the airport.They must also self-monitor their health for 14 consecutive days after arriving.
