The Covid-19 pandemic has increased long-term unemployment in Japan despite Japans overall employment rate falling from July to September.
Local media reported Thursday, citing data from government agenciesAccording to Xinhua, the Internal Affairs Ministry reported that there was an increase of 180,000 in the number people who are unemployed for 12 months or more from last year.Monthly average unemployment fell by 110,000 to 1.91 Million.These figures indicate that approximately one third of unemployed persons are experiencing long-term unemployment.
According to the Labour Ministry, the benefits of the unemployment insurance system would not last beyond 360 days even though it offered special treatment for those who were affected by the pandemic.To avoid an increase in unemployment, the Japanese government provides subsidies for employers.
