Covid: Review of SOPs for testing int’l arrivals by Centre

New Delhi, Nov 28, : Sunday’s announcement by the Home Ministry stated that the Central Government will review the Standard Operating Procedures for testing and monitoring incoming international passengers from countries considered to be at risk.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had reviewed the situation following the appearance of the new Covid variant — Omicron.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Kulbhalla chaired a meeting on Sunday to discuss similar issues.

A statement stated that the meeting reviewed the global situation following the detection of Omicron variant.

It also discussed how to strengthen preventive measures.

The Genomic surveillance of variants will be strengthened and intensified.

The Home Ministry stated that the Home Ministry also announced that the port health officials and airport health officials will be trained to ensure strict monitoring of the testing protocols at ports and airports.

According to the statement, the decision on the effective date for resumption commercial international passenger services will be reviewed in light of the changing global scenario.

It also stated that “a closer eye on emerging pandemic situations within the country” will be maintained.

On November 24, 2021, the Omicron variant was reported from South Africa to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Three distinct peaks have been observed in South Africa’s epidemiological situation.The most recent was a Delta variant.A November 9 specimen was used to confirm the first confirmed B.1.1.529 infected person.

According to the WHO, this variant is susceptible to a number of mutations.Some of these mutations are considered serious.

This variant is associated with a higher risk of re-infection, according to preliminary evidence.
