New Delhi, Nov 29, : Monday’s Supreme Court decision stated that if state governments fail to implement the directives issued by the Centre and the air quality management Commission to curb air pollution, the court will create a task force.

The court emphasized that directions had been issued and that authorities hope all will be well.”But, on ground the result is zero,” observed the bench.

The Supreme Court ordered the state governments of Haryana, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab to follow the directives issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (Delhi-NCR) and requested compliance reports.

Aditya Dubey, a minor, was represented by Vikas Singh, senior advocate.He claimed that the ongoing construction activity related to the Central Vista project is adding to Delhi’s air pollution and asked the court for directions to stop it.Mehta was asked by the bench to file an affidavit in which he would explain the steps taken by the government to reduce air pollution in Delhi’s areas that fall under its control.

Mehta was questioned by the bench about Mehta’s role in creating the commission to monitor air quality index in NCR.”It is simply passing on the directions (issued to the top court) by the states.”

Mehta was also questioned by the bench about the actions taken by state governments to implement the directions.”Tell us which state is not following the directions.The bench offered explanations.

The court stated that it must strictly adhere to the Centre, the highest court, and the air-quality management commission’s directives.The court ordered the state governments to explain their actions in relation to the threat of air pollution.

It scheduled the matter for further hearing on Thursday.
