New Delhi, Nov 25, : Chinese threat group are likely to soon gather encrypted data with long-term utility. They expect to eventually decrypt them using quantum computers, according to a Booz Allen Hamilton report.Chinese threat groups will likely collect data by the 2020s that allows quantum simulators to find new economically valuable materials, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals.Quantum-assisted artificial intelligence, however, is unlikely to emerge in the near future and influence adversary behavior.
Quantum computing is moving from the theoretical to practical. Many quantum computers in global institutions are capable of completing certain tasks faster than any supercomputer.
Although quantum computers’ abilities are not immediately useful but more demonstrative, their trajectory suggests that they will revolutionize many industries, from pharmaceuticals to materials science, and eventually undermine all current public-key encryption methods. This will allow quantum computers to increase the speed and power artificial intelligence (AI) and thus be more popular.
The report also stated that China recently emerged as a major player for quantum computing.
The report stated that many chief information security officers (CISOs) and organisational leaders lack an understanding of the practical importance and management strategies for quantum computing.
The report stated that they don’t know when and how the technology might be useful. They also don’t know how it might influence the behavior of threat agents such as China, which is a persistent cyber adversary to government and commercial organizations worldwide and a major developer and promoter of quantum-computing technology.
