According to the report, government officials are under increasing pressure to stop a possible population drop after decades of interventions in childbirth policies and other recent pressures such as high living expenses.

Although it was not the reason for the drastic drop in birth rates, demographers previously pointed out the low fertility rate and rising costs of starting a family.

According to the yearbook, there was a decrease in per capita expenditures on education, culture, and recreation, as well as health and medical services for urban and rural Chinese.

There also appeared to be an increase in income. The report also stated that housing costs rose.

China’s problems with its population are mostly due to a one-child policy, which was established in 1980.It was in effect until 2015.

There were some exceptions, however, they form part of a larger pattern in the rest of the world, especially in East Asia.

Local authorities and governments have implemented a variety of policies to try to reverse this trend. These include lowering the age limit, easing child care costs, and mandating “cooling-off periods” for divorcing parents.

China’s annual report revealed that divorces fell for the first-time since 1985.However, there was also less marriages (8.14m compared to 9.27m in the previous year).
