New Delhi, Nov 24, : , China has banned celebrities from sharing their wealth on social media as part of its latest crackdown on entertainment, Daily Mail reported. According to the report, China’s Cyberspace Administration announced Tuesday that celebrities will not be allowed in China to show off their wealth or take pleasure in excessive social media posts.
These rules prohibit celebrities from publishing false or personal information, inciting fans against other fan groups, and spreading rumours.
Business Insider also reports that celebrities and fans will have to follow ‘public order’ and ‘good customs, be consistent with correct public opinion orientations and value orientations, promote socialist core principles, and maintain a healthy fashion and taste.
As China continues to expand its hold on the entertainment industry, the new rules are the latest crackdown against celebrity culture.
China’s celebrities were warned by the Communist Party in September to ‘oppose the decadent views of money worship, hedonism, and extreme individualism’ at an entertainment sector symposium, Daily Mail reported.
The slogan of the Beijing meeting was “Love the party, Love the Country, Advocate Morality and Art.”
The report stated that senior party officials and showbusiness leaders attended the meeting and were instructed to adhere to social ethics, personal morality, and family values.
China regards celebrity culture and the pursuit for wealth as dangerous Western imports that threaten Communism, because they promote individualism over collectivism.
According to state media reports, conference attendees were instructed to ‘consciously abandon vulgar, kitsch-inferior tastes, and consciously resist the decadent ideas money worship, hedonism and extreme individualism’.
