Chennai corporation begins safety audit under the ‘Gender Lab Project’

Chennai, Nov 26 : , The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), has begun safety audit under its “Gender Lab” project.The first phase of the audit was conducted at Tondiarpet Division.
Officials from the GCC claim that the draft is complete, but that the final report will require minimal inputs.

The safety audit is being done under the auspices the ‘Gender Lab’, which was established as part of the Chennai City Partnership.

It has received support and assistance from the World Bank.According to officials, the lab is designed to ensure safety for women in public places and public transport that are gender inclusive.

The Gender Lab project is being piloted by Chennai Corporation.It includes gender experts and infrastructure experts.

The lab will also work to improve city infrastructure and make it more inclusive and safer for children and women.The Gender Lab will help to increase awareness among government departments, strengthen policies and improve the lives of women commuters in this city.

This initiative aims to improve women’s transport and make policymakers aware of where money should be spent to improve women’s commuting.The Gender Lab examines the problems faced by women while travelling in buses, as well as those she encounters while travelling in the metro.

It also explores how these problems can be improved.

Gender Labs will provide inputs to help with infrastructure planning.

This initiative will ensure that women’s safety and security are top priorities while infrastructure policies are developed.

The Greater Chennai Corporation plans to hire three consultants who specialize in gender analysis, urban design, and public policy.

This will be done under the auspices Gender Lab.
