Centre decriminalises stubble burning: Agriculture Minister

New Delhi, Nov 27, : Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Agriculture Minister, said Saturday that the Central government had agreed to farmers demand for decriminalising stubble-burning.

Poor air quality in the National Capital Region has been linked to the soil burning by farmers from Delhis neighbouring states. The Supreme Court suggested that the governments secretaries visit the fields to engage with farmers, and scientists to find a permanent solution to the problem of air pollution.

In the meantime, the Samyukta Kiran Morcha (SKM), hardening their position, had proposed six conditions in an open Letter to the Prime Minister and threatened with continuing the agitation if they failed to address those six issues with farmers.Notably, rallies and marches in various states were held to celebrate the completion of the farmers agitation, which prompted the government withdrawing the three controversial farm bills.
