Gaza/Tel Aviv, August 8.: A cease-fire agreement between Israel and the militant group Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in the Gaza Strip came into force at midnight on Sunday, after both sides agreed that they had agreed to it. However the PIJ stated that it would insist on the rights “to react to any Israeli aggression”.Israel also insists that it “maintains the right to react with force” when the ceasefire ceasefire is breached.
The ceasefire follows an armed Israeli military attack that killed numerous senior PIJ members in the Gaza Strip, including military chief Taisir al-Jabari as well as Islamic Jihad’s southern commander Khaled Mansour.
PIJ has fired rockets at the country in response to attacks that killed of its senior members in the Gaza Strip.
A top-ranking group from Egypt had arrived in Gaza on Sunday evening to discuss the possibility of a deal.
