Chennai, Dec 8, : The big question facing the armed forces and the nation is how a helicopter carrying an extremely important person — India’s Chief Of Defence Staff General Bipin Rohat — crashed, resulting in the deaths of many people.

On Wednesday afternoon, at least four high ranking military officials were killed in a helicopter crash involving the Indian Air Force in Tamil Nadu’s Coonoor.

Locals who witnessed the chopper collide with a tree helped with rescue operations.According to an eyewitness, the chopper may have hit a tree and crashed, which may explain why it was misty.

He said that he saw the chopper upside down and set fire to it when he reached the spot.

Indian Air Force confirmed General Rawat was present and tweeted: “An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter, CDS Gen Bipin Rawat aboard, collided today near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu.”

IANS was told by a former Wing Commander of IAF that the helicopter had crashed with a strong impact and exploded based on visuals from the news channels.

Dr J.Radhakrishnan, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary, stated that a special medical team was sent to Coonoor in order to treat the injured.

Sources said that the Chief Minister of Tennessee may visit the hospital to treat the injured.
