CBI chief Ranjit Sinha clarifies ‘rape remark’

CBI Director Ranjit Sinha has made a controversial statement by comparing the legalizing of betting in sports to enjoying rape.

While arguing that betting on sports should be legalised in India, CBI director Ranjit Sinha made a bizarre and controversial comparison with the heinous crime of rape, saying: “If you cannot prevent rape, you enjoy it.” When asked by a senior editor on his views about legalising betting, Sinha, who was on the panel of a session, "Ethics and integrity in sports - need for a law and role of CBI", said there was no harm in legalising betting in the country."If you cannot enforce the ban on betting, it is like saying if you cant prevent rape, you enjoy it", Sinha said.

Otherside The CBI chiefs shameful remark has provoked angry reactions in the social media .Morover Ranjit Sinhas statement comes at a time when the entire country is debating changes in law that even include giving death sentence to rapists.Sinha’s comment triggered row and instantaneously drew the wrath of many on the social media, However, he later clarified his position saying that it was a proverb and his statement has been taken out of context"Statement was made in context to voice vote taken by Shekhar Gupta, Editor of Indian Express on legalising batting in sports.

I gave my opinion that batting should be legalised and that if law cant be enforced that doesnt mean that law cant be made.It is as erroneous as if rape is inevitable one should lie back and enjoy it," clarified Sinha .
