Islamabad 28 August : While millions of Pakistanis devastated by severe flooding caused by rain awaited relief Friday, Quetta and Swat came in the spotlight due to the magnitude of destruction witnessed there in one day, according to media reports.
The devastation of infrastructure and the break in communications links has made it more difficult by authorities in aid and rescue actions in the region.The road, air as well as rail lines in Balochistan have been shut down which cut it off from the all of the country.
Geo News reported "Due to flash floods and torrential rains in Balochistan optical fiber cable data and voice services have been disrupted in Quetta as well as the rest of the major cities of the province," Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) announced on Twitter.The effort is underway to address this extraordinary situation the report said.
Data and voice services were restored in the afternoon according to the PTA.A huge railway bridge was washed out between Kolpur and Mach in Bolan Pass, closing off Quetta the capital of Balochistan from the rest of the country for an indefinite time officials said, Geo News reported.The four highways that connect Balochistan with other provinces were closed due to the presence of damaged bridges and landslides.
So far more than 235 people were killed in the province, and hundreds of thousands of people lost their homes, authorities claimed.
