Reports of casualties in border clashes between Armenia and Azerbaijan

Baku/Yerevan : Armenia and Azerbaijan have announced separately that their soldiers were killed in fighting that broke out near the border.

The Armenian Defence Ministry reported that one soldier had been killed and another 24 were missing.They also claimed that Azerbaijani forces captured the troops.

The Azerbaijani side claimed that it seized two Armenian military positions.Each side has accused the other of provocation attacks.

The two countries came to an agreement on a ceasefire that Russia brokered hours after the fighting.On Wednesday, both confirmed that clashes had ended and that border conditions were stable following the ceasefire.

In September 2013, the last major armed conflict between South Caucasian nations over Nagorno Karabakh was triggered.It claimed more than 6000 peoples affections.

The truce was brokered by Russia in November 2020.Around 2,000 Russian peacekeepers were sent to the region of Nagorno Karabakh.
