Although there is a push to expand Covid-19 vaccine boosters in Canada, epidemiologists say there is no evidence that there is an urgent need for more shots. This is due to the ongoing, strong protection provided by the two doses.

However, with the rapid approaching Christmas holidays and the emergence in the world of the more contagious Omicron variant, Covid-19 levels are still high in many parts of the country.

Some territories and provinces have expanded access to boosters, while others have chosen to limit their availability to healthcare workers and those most at risk.

Experts in medicine are divided on the need to expand access for more Canadians to shots.

The emergence of Omicron will likely intensify the debate until more information is available.
