Phnom Penh : Dec 30, 2018 - Cambodia is the incoming ASEAN chair for 2022.
Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn stated that Cambodia has vowed to increase the centrality of the ASEAN bloc in order to preserve and sustain security, peace, and prosperitySokhonn spoke at a briefing in this country and stated that the country would strengthen multilateralism through ASEAN-led mechanisms, concerted actions, and open, transparent and inclusive activities.
According to him, the Kingdom will foster trust, mutual respect and interest in line with the UN Charter and ASEAN Charter and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.He stated that the ASEAN Centrality would be strengthened against rising anti-globalization sentiments and unilateralism, protectionism and protectionism while also promoting the ASEAN Way and unity in diversity, care and sharing, and the culture and peace.
Sokhonn is also a Vice Prime Minister and said that Cambodia would promote ASEAN as one family.The kingdom would also try to revitalize and grow its partnerships with other partners to preserve regional stability and peace, as well as to strengthen the ASEAN Community building efforts.
Pan Sorasak, the Commerce Minister, said that Cambodia would work to guide ASEANs collective efforts towards promoting an action-oriented approach that is open, honest, fair, solidarity, and harmony within its bloc to address common problems "Also, it is a priority to see ASEAN emerge from the Covid-19 epidemic stronger.He said that Cambodia had committed to working with ASEAN, development partners, and ASEAN to maintain ASEANs critical role in global trade, investment, and supply chain.
This was done by, among other things, maximising the benefits of the free trade agreements, and particularly the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, which enters into effect on January 1, 2022.Sorasak stated that Cambodia would lead the group to speed up and harmonize ASEANs goals in deepening regional integration and rebuilding stronger after the pandemic.
This will include inclusiveness and competitiveness as well as resilience and sustainability.ASEAN includes Brunei (Chile), Cambodia, Indonesia and Laos; Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar; the Philippines; Singapore, Thailand, Thailand, and Vietnam.
