Cambodia Will Host The 13th ASEM Summit About Covid Recovery And Multilateralism

Phnom Penh : , November 24, 2009 – The 13th Asia-Europe Meeting Summit (Asem13), will be held via video conference on Thursday and Friday, according to the Foreign Ministry.
According to Xinhua news agency, Prime Minister Hun Sen will preside over the Summit.

The Summit will also include heads of state/government, high-ranking representatives from 51 Asem countries in Asia and Europe, as well as the President of Europe’s Council and President of the European Commission and the Secretary General of ASEAN.

Under the theme “Strengthening Multilateralism to Shared Growth”, the Asem13 will offer leaders from Asia and Europe the opportunity to reaffirm the value of Asem cooperation in tackling regional and global issues of mutual interest, including the Covid-19 pandemic, and its socioeconomic impacts, the statement stated.

The statement stated that Cambodia’s participation in Asem13 is a sign of its commitment at the highest level to Multilateralism and active engagement with international communities to address current and future global challenges.

It said that the Asem leaders will discuss their role in revitalizing Multilateralism to promote global peace and stability, strengthen rule-based trading system, and promote inclusive and sustainable growth and development as well as connectivity during the two-day meeting.

Asem leaders will also discuss Covid-19 and socioeconomic Recovery.This focuses on addressing pandemic-related issues, advancing Post Covid socio-economic recover for shared growth, and rebuilding a resilient society, it said.

According to the statement, Asem13 will adopt three main outcomes documents: the Asem13 chair’s declaration, Phnom Penh’s statement on the post Covid-19 socio-economic Recovery and the future of Asem connectivity.
