The petitioners claimed that more than 5,000 people were appointed after the recruitment process had ended. The state had recommended that 13,000 fourth-class staff be recruited in 2016.

In response, the WBSSC conducted periodic examinations and interviews and also created a panel. The term of this panel expired in 2019.

Widespread allegations were made that the commission had made many irregular recruitments, not less than 500, even after the expiry date of the panel. There were also allegations that the regional office of this commission was used to recruit.

A case was filed in high court against the 25-member appointment and it reached Gangopadhyays single bench on Tuesday.sbg/ar #Calcutta #stays.
