The order of Justice Abhjit Gangopadhyay’s single bench was stayed for three weeks by the division bench. It directed the WBBSE, and the state School Service Commission, to submit documents related to the appointments to Justice Abhjit Gangopadhyay by the close of court hours.

The court stated that the matter will be heard again on Monday.

The salary of 25 Group D employees was stopped by the Calcutta High Court earlier on the grounds of alleged foul play in their appointments.

This was based on the “recommendations of the West Bengal Central School Service Commission” (WBSSC).

The court also requested that both the SSC (and the WBBSE) file an affidavit regarding the recruitments.

The petitioners claimed that more than 5,000 people were appointed after the recruitment process had ended.

The state had recommended that 13,000 fourth-class staff be recruited in 2016.

In response, the WBSSC conducted periodic examinations and interviews and also created a panel. The term of this panel expired in 2019.

Widespread allegations were made that the commission had made many irregular recruitments, not less than 500, even after the expiry date of the panel. There were also allegations that the regional office of this commission was used to recruit.

A case was filed in high court against the 25-member appointment and it reached Gangopadhyay’s single bench on Tuesday.
