Cabinet approves continuation Pradhan Mantri Ahaas Yojana -Gramin

New Delhi, Dec 8, : The Union Cabinet approved Wednesday the continuation of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yajana-Gramin (PMAY-G), until March 2024 to ensure that all rural residents have access to housing.
In a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi (Prime Minister), the Union Cabinet approved the proposal from the department of Rural Development to continue PMAY-G beyond 2021.This means that financial assistance will be provided for construction of the remaining 1.55 million houses as per March 31, 2021, under the scheme with a total target of 2.95 Crore houses.

The total financial implication of construction of the remaining 1.55 million houses is Rs 2,17 257 crore (Central share Rs 1,25,106 crore, and State share Rs 73 4,755 crore).This is to achieve cumulative targets of 2.95 million houses in rural areas under PMAY-G.There is also an additional requirement for Rs 18,676 crore for NABARD’s interest repayment.

The scheme will continue until March 2024, ensuring that the remaining 155.75 million households in the overall target of 2.95 Crore houses under PMAY-G receive assistance for the construction of ‘Puccas’ houses with basic amenities to help achieve the objective of Housing for All’ rural areas.

Out of the 2.95 crore total target, 1.65 million PMAY-G homes were built as of November 29.

It is estimated that 2.02 crore houses will be completed by August 15, 2022, which is close to the SECC 2011 database-based Permanent Wait List.

To reach the 2.95 million house target, the scheme must be continued until March 2024.

In consultation with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Finance will decide on the phasing-out of EBR and provision of whole scheme funding through Gross Budgetary Supplement (GBS).

Additional Rs 45 lakh administrative funds are released annually from the Central Share of Administrative funds (0,3% out of total administrative funds of 2% to each smaller state Himachal Pradesh Haryana, Goa Punjab, Uttarakhand and the northeastern states, except for Assam, Tripura and all UTs other than Jammu and Kashmir)
